Local designer shields Lincoln retailers during lock down

Local product designer, Mark Panton has been working to help create a safer working environment for retailers in Lincoln and the surrounding area during the Covid-19 lockdown and help others to return to their businesses as the country moves forward.

Retailers who stay open to supply essential items to the public and businesses, need to provide measures to minimise the risk of spreading Covid-19 and avoid exposing themselves, their staff and their customers. This isn’t always easy and many are having to rely on masks, gloves and standard counter shields which don’t provide maximum protection when two metre distancing is not possible. Retailers often don’t have the required PPE to keep trading safely.  Mark explained, “Shops and retailers are providing a valuable service to their community during the lock-down period and require maximum protection for themselves and their customers.  I design and build bespoke timber frame structures from my workshop in Lincoln and knew that I could help.”

After consulting local retailers, Mark designed the ‘Covid-19 Shield’, which he builds to the size and specification of each retailer to achieve maximum protection. Mark describes how he adheres to the social distancing, “All design and construction is carried out while the retailer is closed to avoid any contact.  It feels good when you see the confidence shop owners have knowing that they can trade safely.”

Local printer, Lincoln Print & Copy Centre were one of the first to take advantage of Mark’s counter shield system. “We are very happy with the shield and the ease of which it was put in place. The shield gives our customers the confidence to come in and speak with us” explained Karen, the Director at Lincoln Print & Copy Centre.

Jason Green at UK Tool Station has reopened his shop after having a recently installed a shield. Jason said,”Mark has really helped us by installing the safety shield, which spans the entire checkout area. This provides maximum protection possible whilst adhering to the 2m safety distance. I what to say a big thank you to Mark for the fast turnaround and easy installation he provided.”

This gratitude is echoed with the growing number of convenience stores having Mark’s shields installed. Mr Karuna of ‘West End Food Store’ described his shield as: “A lifeline for my business during these difficult times, helping to protect me, my family, staff and my customers.” Mr Karuna continued, “We can all relax now without the worry of spreading the virus, it’s such a relief for us and our customers.”

The counter shields are designed to sit on counter tops or from floor to ceiling with doors.  A design type which will be required when offices and schools etc. begin to re-open.  All shields and screens are built from timber and heavy duty PVC on site to the customers design requirements to provide maximum protection.
The design avoids any holes or damage left in counters and start at just £120. The shields are priced low to keep them affordable for as many local businesses as possible in Lincoln and the surrounding area.

Woodland owners take shelter

Woodland owners in the UK can bask in the shelter of their woodlands during the milder months, but when it comes to the winter, trees won't provide adequate protection. If woodland owners spend hours in their woodlands all year long, they need a woodland shelter which is a bit more watertight and cosy, to truly make the most of their woodland, all year round, whatever the weather.

But how do you add a practical shelter without hindering the natural beauty of UK woodlands?  There are many ways you can build your own woodland shelter, depending on how handy you are and the resources you have to hand. But if you don't have the time or inclination to build your own woodland shelter, having a shelter
delivered and built for you is a good option.

Alfresco Arch based in Lincoln design and build arc shaped, timber shelters, which blend beautifully into woodland settings. Suppliers of rural organisations such as the National Trust, Wildlife Trust and Countryside Alliance, Alfresco Arc…

New vehicle arc design for wide vehicles

Forget ugly tractor sheds and vehicle ports, look at this stunning vehicle shelter. No planning permission required, a truly mobile vehicle shelter.

The problem with wide vehicles is that once you have backed the vehicle into the Arc, how do you get out? Mark got around this problem by building an 'Arc Wing' on the side. This allows the driver to exit the vehicle arc at the back. Simple, effective, beautiful.

The customer says...
"WOW!!!!!
I just wanted to drop you a line to say how FABULOUS I think the Arc is! It is truly beyond my expectations! I think it looks perfect and Mark has done a smashing job. Please convey my thanks and appreciation to him. I can sleep soundly now that the tractor is cosy in her Arc - and just in time too, what with all this wintry weather!"
